The Wix Features Worth Using, After 200+ Builds

There are hundreds of Wix features and apps. Most "top Wix features" articles list whatever the marketing pages highlight.

This is the shorter, more useful list: what I actually turn on for paying clients, what I skip, and why. Eight years, 200+ sites.

Features I use on nearly every build

Wix Bookings

For any business that schedules appointments, this replaces an entire separate subscription. It handles staff calendars, buffers, payments, and reminders. Solid enough that I rarely look at alternatives.

Wix Blog

Worth turning on even if you post rarely — it's how you rank for questions people ask before they're ready to buy. One caveat that cost me directly: set the feed to show all your posts, not a "Load More" button. Posts behind Load More load client-side and search crawlers may never see them. I found that on my own site during an audit and it was hiding a third of my blog.

Velo

Covered in depth in my post on Wix coding/post/enhance-your-website-with-professional-wix-coding-help. Short version: dynamic pages, member logic, external integrations, automation.

The SEO panel

Per-page titles, meta descriptions, structured data, and the URL Redirect Manager. Underused by almost everyone. Which brings me to the redirect manager specifically.

URL Redirect Manager

Critical and widely ignored. Wix does not auto-create redirects for blog posts the way it does for regular pages — change a blog URL without setting one manually and you've thrown away whatever ranking it had.

I used this heavily when I consolidated my own blog recently, redirecting 19 posts into 4. It imports a CSV, up to 500 at a time.

Wix Automations

Follow-up emails, internal notifications, form-triggered workflows. Handles a lot of what people assume needs custom code.

Features that are situational

Wix Stores — genuinely good for straightforward retail. If you have complex variant logic or unusual fulfillment, scope it carefully before committing.

Wix Members Area — strong if you need gated content or client portals. Combined with Velo, this is where Wix outperforms its reputation most.

Multilingual — works well, but doubles your content maintenance forever. Turn it on only if you'll actually maintain both languages.

Wix Events — good for organizations running regular events. Peace Church Middleville needed exactly this, serving 2,600+ people across two locations with constant event updates their own staff had to manage.

What I skip

Most third-party chat widgets. They're the most common cause of layout shift and slow loading I see. If you need chat, test the performance cost first.

Decorative animations on scroll. They look impressive in a demo and slow the site for real users on real phones.

Every app that sounds useful. Each one adds scripts. I've inherited sites running a dozen apps where the owner couldn't name what half of them did. Audit yearly and remove what you don't use.

Auto-playing video heroes. Enormous files, hurt mobile performance, and most visitors scroll past before it loads.

The features that actually move revenue

If you only do a few things:

  1. Fill in every page's title and meta description. Empty ones let Google write your search listing for you. Woodtech Inc had no pages with meta descriptions. This is something we could help them fix.
  2. Turn on Bookings or a real contact path and make it visible without scrolling.
  3. Set up redirects before changing any URL.
  4. Compress your images. Still the most common performance problem I find.
  5. Connect Google Search Console. You cannot fix what you can't see.

None of these are exciting. All of them beat adding another app.

Why I only build on Wix

I get asked whether Wix can handle serious work. Every case study on this site is a business that moved to Wix — mostly from WordPress. Age Management of West Michigan, one of the largest independent medical offices in West Michigan, came off WordPress and nearly doubled their traffic
